Galanthus platyphyllus ex Russia
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:50:57 PM »
Hi all ,

I have taken today some pics of my Gal. platyphyllus ex Russia ( thanks a nice person ;)
This plants are really a big surprise for me - they have start with flowering on beginning of March ....and so I dont believe it is a true G. platyphyllus ....I was always thinking it is a G.woronowii  :-\
I grow some other G. platyphyllus from Georgia ( from two different locations )since some years in my garden -and this plants are really difficould for cultivation .The reason is they emerge always very late
( in this time are only some noses visibly - but later is it here to warm for this plants and they suffer ...
Last year I saw the first flowers on middle of April ...and the snails like it to much ....
For all this reasons is in my eyes those G.platyphyllus much easier in cultivation -I have made nothing special with it - they grow in lattice pots together with my other new plants .

I'm really very glad with this plants  :D

Enjoy
Hans

Nice plants Hans.  So do you still think they are woronowii, despite the apparent lack of a notch in the inner tepal?

I'm a bit surprised about the leaves -they are not so very broad - my krasnovii have much more broad leaves .

Hans,

Lovely elongated look to the petals, and great texture to the leaves.  Very nice!!
Cheers.

Hi Hans!

Best wishes to your plants from their wild brothers.  :)

This year I've got not only species but some forms from the same location.

Did you have to travel far Olga? I'm hoping mine set seed, but they must surely be from one clone so not the best source of pollen?
