I have been going stir crazy with this dreadful cold and wet bank holiday weather, and was desperate to do something constructive , so washing clay pots it was, how exciting lol! It was rather nostalgic in a bizarre way, the smell bringing back schoolboy memories of washing pots with my much loved grandfather, however I had forgotten how the " distinctive " smell does linger :-[ and am not looking forward to the response it will receive from Helen when she gets in from a hard days midwifery. Are there any modern alternatives to Jeyes fluid with a slightly more pleasing odour?

You might use something like "Milton" - at least that would be pleasantly familiar to Helen and would disinfect to the same degree, I reckon.

When this question cropped up in the past I suggested Jeyes but someone said that it was too expensive and that they used a bleach e.g Domestos. It all depends on preference and your pocket.

There was an earlier discussion on this - i think hydrogen peroxide was suggested too.

but both firms were unable to pay the £3m + to get it properly licenced under the EU regs- but Monsanto could get roundup licenced
