We had our first Autumn rain on 1 October and another is forecast for Saturday night into Monday. Temperatures have finally cooled to around 20 C for a high temperature during the day.
This is a very welcome change in the weather for us. This has reduced the fire danger considerably and hopefully is a harbinger an abundant rainfall season this year. :)
-
Apparently the northern lights were spectacular last night.
-
Yes, but I didn't see anything :( Just clouds and fog.

After nearly three days of rain this was a welcome sight when hanging out the washing yesterday. It was just as good this morning if a bit chilly.
-
Where I am, Abigail's making her presence felt, the wind has not stopped blowing all day.
-
Missed most of Abigail here, been a bit breezy and quite cold today but managed a couple of hours in the garden this morning. First gardening fpr the last four days which, to put it mildly, have been wet. Matt Topsfield on Benbecula and Chris Johnson on South Uist must have taken quite a battering though and more to come.

I can empathise, John, we are in our third day of it. Last night was the wildest.

Ah, posts crossed. I see we're in your thoughts. 8)

Its a bit breezy here but otherwise its been nice no rain except for a heavy burst around midday but very pleasant 15C today. On Tuesday the temperature was 19C, according to the car!
-
You must get all sorts of weather where you are chris? Great in the summer, but rough in the winter. You and Matt and your families stay safe.
-
It dropped from 9C to 5C here today. Nice and windy for the washing then it rained while I was at the garden centre enjoying a coffee.
-

Very much so Chris, hope you get through it all without too much damage to your hard work oudoors and even less damage to you and yours.

Thank you, John. Being retired, I don't have to go out much.
Watching the storms come and go across an angry Atlantic is often spectacular from the comfort of the lounge.

We're battened down pretty well. Each new project has stronger timber and more concrete than the last. Appreciate your thoughts.
-
Luckily we were all off the islands when the storm hit. On our return I have found the only sign of a gale passing is just a little bit of wind burn to the very edges of some young Primula florindae plants, but otherwise everything has fared well here. Thankfully, this new house is tucked down in a hollow so we don't get the full blast of the weather. Thanks for all your good wishes.
-
We were so pleased to see you at the weekend. Matt - and congratulations on being elected to Council ! Good to know you've got home safely too.
-
Thank you and good to see you too, Maggi. We're all safe and sound. Patrick's recording went on longer than expected - still going when I got back to Ft. William! - and he's being very secretive about the broadcast! :-X
Looking forward to serving the club.
-
These recording events always take forever - but if he thinks he's going to keep this to himself he'll have a big shock ..... Mis Marple is on the case!
-
Won't be difficult to find! The key clues are: a carol concert sung by Soisgeul, the Gaelic Gospel Choir recorded at the Duncansburgh MacIntosh Parish Church in Fort William and to be broadcast on BBC Alba on Christmas Day I believe.
-
Oh! Now you've blabbed - he can't blame me!
-
Abigail has cleared off, now barney has taken her place to cause some more havoc.
-
Yes he has and he's been battering us for most of the day today.
-
That's barney out of the way thank goodness, not too bad here just a broken pane of glass on the greenhouse, I hope it's going to be a while before Clodagh turns up.
-
Wonder what the next wee storm will be called? Pleased Barney didn't reduce your greenhouse to rubble John. I have a cousin Huddersfield called Abigail Flood!
-

Wonder what the next wee storm will be called? ...............................
Erm! ;D
-
Sorry, I thought that was a term for soil with a bit of grass attached. ::)
-
Naming a storm before it arrives is like naming a child before it's born. :P
-
Newly-to-be parents these days seem in a terrible rush to know the sex of their offspring when it's hardly got beyond sperm stage so it probably gets a name as well. My two were always referred to as 'Fred' from bump stage to being born.
-
Hi Anthony & David, Clodagh is an Irish name, can't say I've heard of it myself. This greenhouse is made of sterner then its predecessor Anthony. Did your cousin get teased a lot when storm Abigail turned up?
-
Might be a bit before your time John

Cheers for the link David, yeah I think it was before my time, she seems like a nice lady.
-
Way that I thought she was a bit of a cracker ;D
-

She did.
No you talk about her, I think I remember my mother talking about Clodagh Rodgers, but I must have been very young at the time. ::)

You implying that I'm old? ;D

My son James has just bought a turntable and is now buying remastered versions of my LP collection, which was last seen at my late mother's house.
-
First frost of the Autumn here this morning. Just lifting now from the South/South Western facing roofs as I write.
-
Had our first one on Saturday night, and again last night. The birdbath, aka the cat drinking bath froze.
-
-5°c at 6am, winter is coming for sure
-
Sunrise this morning, beautiful.
-
I don't do sunrises! ;D
-
I don't do sunrises! ;D
Me neither, these days - but I've enjoyed seeing that one. thanks John!
Had quite a bit of snow here yesterday but nearly all gone now - I have a feeling that we're going to need a new thread title now..... much more like winter.
It was disturbing to read that the recovery operation after the horrible New Zealand helicopter crash has been delayed by bad weather - sound like summer there is not all it could be either. Seems we hear of a crash like this there just about every year. So sad.
-
Your very welcome Maggi, do you like your nice warm bed too much to get up in the morning David? ;D
-
Early mornings?
Here is a view from Imarivolanitra (Pic Boby) 2658m a week ago.
-
Great picture hoy, that view is spectacular, did you take the photo yourself?
-
...........do you like your nice warm bed too much to get up in the morning David? ;D
Yup, sure do, and the colder it is the longer I take to creep out of bed. It's one of the many bonuses of retirement John, as they say 'the hours are great but the money isn't as good'!
-
I've a few years to go before I experience that David lol or sooner if my numbers ever come up.
