I decided to feed my overall plants including alpines with old coffee beans. My creeping phlox could be slow to flower, perhaps wuth bad April . Would a dose of potassium.correct any over feeding of Nitrogen.

Application of potassium should balance the NPK ratio that the plants are receiving. If the N rich fertilizer has been applied for some time the N would have been taken up by the plants.
Have no experience with correcting the situation you report but try it and see what the outcome is.

Thanks I shall have a go.
