White Roscoea humeana is just a perfect flower - love it!

Maggie, the Helichrysum has been there now for 12 years, but this is the best year for the number of flowers.

The Helichrysum is magnificent, Mike - must be enjoying the changed weather.

The white Roscoea humeana is very beautiful, Mike! I wonder whether the bicoloured one will be stable - it would be an asset!

Escaping the heavy rainfall at home (already 435 mm this year, 126 in May till now), we spend a delightful holiday in dry and sunny southeastern Sweden. These are some pics from Öland.

Ranunculus bulbosus is a common plant here, but variations are rarely found. This is one with 9 petals.

And a semi-double one.

Mike and Mariette, many thanks for your pictures. I have never seen such a floriferous plant of
Helichrysum sessilioides like yours. My plant also grows on tufa and I tried several times to grow
cuttings of it at other places, but was not suuccesful.

Thank You, ruweiss! Unfortunately, I own no rock garden, but if, I´d like it to look like this.

Parts of the alvars on Öland are tinted blue by Globularia vulgaris, but white specimen are to be found, too.

I´m not able to grow catsfoot in my garden, though I like the German name Katzenpfötchen. Here are they are growing wild, with male plants side by side.

At first sight the alvar looks dull, but many orchids feel at home here. The first to flower is Orchis mascula.

Smaller, but very beautiful, Neotinea ustulata follows next.

What fun to imagine what those Neotinia flowers look like.

Tiny people?  A dog's face with long ears?

Mike, are you sure about the name? Normally humeana has broader leaves.

Herman, I usually only find seed on Roscoea humeana alba but I do grow others that are in flower at the same time.
Roscoea humeana Lutea
Roscoea Harvington Raw Silk &
Roscoea Cautleyoides Early Purple.
Perhaps the insects or bees have had a hand mixing things for me.

Mike, beautiful Roscoea's. I also like them. I didn't know R. humeana f. lutea and R. cautleoides 'Early purple'. They are gorgeous!
Identifying Roscoea is not easy. I have Jill Cowley's book "The genus Roscoea". I'll have to make time to study it more deeply.
Here other Roscoea's sometimes set seed, but this year is very wet.

Herman,  I will check very carefully for seed on all the roscoea from now on.
The ants & wasps are very partial to them.
Another taken this morning, Roscoea humeana seedlings ex McBeaths Pink. Seedlings came from Ann & Bob Armstrong.

Many thanks to all the friends, who show us all their plants in such an outstanding condition.
We suffer from extremely heavy rainfalls, all the creeks and rivers in our region are overflooded
and many roads unpassable. I cannot remember such a wet spring since I started gardening.
Wonder, how our plants will behave after this.
Last sunday the rain stopped for all the day and I had the the chance to photograph this miniature
iyv (don't know the name of this cultivar) and Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace'.

Rudi, sorry to hear from your water problems. If the water doesn't stay for a long time most plants will recover.
A part in my son's garden is overflowed (about 10 cm) from November till now. Some trees and shrubs have not grown new leaves, I expect they will never recover.

Herman, sorry to hear about your son's problems with the overflown garden.
Attached are some actual photos from our meadow garden; we think, that all
the plants will recover when the water is gone. The garden by the house with
the "better" plants still looks good and I hope that this outstanding rain did no
further harm.

Rudi, I´m so sorry to see these pictures of Your garden, is it it flooded by the Rems or by the excessive rainfall? At least there is some hope now as less rain is predicted. No help for the poor people who lost their lives in the floods, among them a firefighter  trying to help.

Mariette, thank you for your kind reply. Our garden is about 1,5 km away from the Rems river at a light slope.
The water comes from the fields above it, but we hope, that the soil dries up quick again. i am sorry for the people
who lost their lives and those with a deserted home. It will take a long time until everthing is dry and repaired again.

Mariette, wonderful pictures from your trip to Öland. It surely is an amazing place.
Ranunculus bulbosus looks so nice, too bad I have never seen it in nature here.

Here weather jumped right from winter to summer in early May. Temperatures were higher than average for a month, with no rain, so all flowering went very fast by. In my garden it rained 3mm all May. Now the weather turned around and temperatures dropped to below +20, with showers almost every day, though it could still rain more after the drought.

Mike, wonderful garden scene with Tulipa sprengeri. I'm trying to grow more of it from seeds, so hopefully in a few years time I have more flowering. Here are some couple of days ago.
