Title: Going to Cornwall

I am going to Cornwall the first week in april, together with my daughter, her husband and their two little boys. I would be very grateful if I could get some tips of places to visit. We plan to see the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project. Any suggestions is of interest. Historical remembrances, fine gardens or parks, nice pubs, beautiful sights...

Kenneth,

My wife and I will be there between the 6th and the 13th of April.

We plan to visit Caerhays, Trellisick, Tresco, Trewithen, The Garden House, Rosemoor(Devon), Lost Gardens of Heligan, Hestercombe, Trebah, Pine Lodge Gardens and the Eden Project (only if it pours rain).

You will find information on all of these on the internet.

Paddy - If you have a chance get to Keith Wylie's, everyone says it is well worth a visit and some great plants available.

Hope you will photograph the Magnolia campbellii selections ifr not too late. ;)

John,

I need only go a couple of miles out the road to see great stands of M. cambellii. Mount Congreve has great plantings and they should be coming into flower very shortly. The first of the magnolias are showing some colour here in my own garden with some M. soulangeana cultivars beginning to show their flowers.

I must look into Keith Wylie's.

I doubt it Paddy. In Devon and Cornwall tourists mean money and nothing's for free- they even 'soak' the in-comers! ;D

Thank you Paddy. I will look all that up. Magnolia campbellii is not growing om my door step! I would really like to see them in flower.

Kenneth Paddy and David have  given good advice for Cornwall and you can even take a helicopter to the Scilly Isles and go to Tresco Abbey a fantastic garden with many plants growing that will not be found elsewhere north of the Med. As far as Magnolia campbelli is concerned there are fantastic plants at Trewithen and particularly Caerhays but I think they are usually finished by the middle of March in Cornwall, but you may be lucky with the tail end of the flowering

Thank you for the help. We had a really good time though it was quite chilly when we arrived. Almost like home but it got much better. We heard that it has been a cold spring and I think that's the reason why M campbellii still flowered nicely.
