At the Norfolk and Norwich Show Yesterday the class for four shrubs included this one - of course it was not named. Several of the narcissi were NAS'd as they were not named Rule 17 (apparently). It is one I have not come across before and would love to grow. Can anyone help with the identification please? At first we thought it was some sort of ribes, but doesn't have the scent, the leaves look familiar...

Looks like a Ribes x gordonianum to me ;)
...and you have one of the parents behind R odoratum I think.

Read the history here....

(N.B. The link looks incomplete, but it works)

It looks lovely. What size is it?
-
Missouri says 3-5 ft with a spread of 4 to 6 ft :

I agree, Brian ;)
And I second the thanks to Maggi - interesting reading.

Can anyone help with the identification of this shrub please?

Sorry, back to the Ribes picture for just one second. Brian, was there really a class for "a plate of beetroot" at the Norfolk and Norwich Show?
-
Michael, have you considered Rhaphiolepis indica?
-
I agree you have the correct name, Hoy.
Some other Rhaphiolepis are shown here : http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=3639.msg97114#msg97114 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=3639.msg97114#msg97114) by Luit. He later mentions that R. indica does not grow very well for him.... your brother doesn't seem to have that problem!

Thanks Maggi and Hoy, I have passed the name to my brother. It appears to be growing well for him.

At first I must point out that my pink Rhaphiolepis was not R. indica, but a so called "hardier"cross, R. x delacouri.
But alas the normal white Rhaphiolepis and the pink R. x delacouri both did not survive the severe winter with - 15C-18C, just above 10 cms. of snow. I left them still to see if they probably thrive, but until now no green points visible at all... :(
-
Oh, dear, a shame you have lost those, Luit.

Not exactly Richard the classes were
VEGETABLES
112 Three Onions.
113 Two Spring Cabbage, stalks cut to about 7.5cm.
114 One Cauliflower, stalk cut to about 7.5cm.
115 Three Potatoes.
116 Three sticks Rhubarb, natural.
117 Three sticks Rhubarb, forced.
118 Any other vegetables.
So it must have been in 118 :)

And they didn't get their photograph taken because they didn't get a first place. In fact none of the vegetables did which is quite unusual in NNHS shows.

I had not realised that it was a NNHS show, but thought it was an new innovative class in an AGS show!
