Pleione pollen question.
« on: April 16, 2013, 10:37:48 AM »
Hi,

Now that spring is finally here (in London, UK anyway) my Pleione have finally decided to start growing.

I was wondering if there is an optimum time to harvest pollen from Pleione flowers? Could one harvest pollen a day after the flower has opened or is it advisable to wait for a few days? Does it vary from species to species (and therefore hybrid to hybrid)?

Any thoughts would be great.

Regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
I usually leave the flower for about 5 days after it has fully opened before harvesting pollen. This is based on original advice given me by Ian Butterfield and it seems to work well for all Pleione
