Trough sizes????
« on: May 27, 2014, 08:48:16 PM »
I was wondering if anyone had a golden formula for the size of stone troughs - in other words what height/length/depth looks right

some just sit right - some just jar - so what I am looking for is proportion to save me having to go and measure a bunch

the reason I am asking is we have had one of the walls at the front of the house rebuilt and I now have a flat wall top that is 400mm wide and 4m long

My builder has some good contacts at the local sandstone quarry and can get me some blocks of stone and I also have a retired stone mason who will tool them up and make the blocks into troughs

Any advice on proportion would be appreciated - of if anyone has any proportion plans?

my initial thoughts were 450mm wide - 325mm high and 900mm long

Most old sinks/troughs were made to suit their intended use, but you could go with the classics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio
Depth to suit whatever you are going to use it for.

The ones I made from fish boxes that look best are wider than they are tall
