Some alpines in my garden
« on: July 29, 2013, 08:34:12 AM »
I haven't visited the forum for a long time. But in summertime  - when I am in the country side -  my internet connection is extremely poor. Just now I spend a couple of days at home in Stockholm and thought, that I should re connect with the forum and show you some images of my garden.

The first image is of Anemone uralensis, which occurs   in many different shades. My are of a very good red color. It took some years, but I hope that by now it is safely established in my garden.

Then second picture shows Anemone fasciculata in a lovely pink shade, grown from seed i got from Josef Jurasek.

Image 3 and 4 are of a Corydalis hybrid (C bracteata x C caucasica). The flowers are red and the foliage is yellowish. I named it after my great granddaughter 'Shirin Fiedler'.

The last image shows Lagotis glauca. I found, that it is hard to get viable seed of this species. But some years ago I had one - only one- seed, which germinated. It is a stunning plant with the big, succulent leaves.

Hello Hannelotte - I discovered your website some time ago as a link on another. Some fascinating plants - I don't know Anemone uralensis; a good strong colour - and the Lagotis is very nice, so much like Synthyris. I hope Sweden is getting a little more rain than we are in SE England!

Hello Tim,
Anemone uralensis is very rare and I was lucky to get a single root from the botanical garden in Ekatarinburg. So I am very happy it survived and starts spreading.

Yes, Lagotis glauca reminds in some way of Synthyris, but it is much sturdier. The leaves are almost as large as Bergenia leaves.

We have just now some thunder storms, but else it has been very dry.

Dear Hannelotte,  it is so good to see you here again : meeting you in Tabor was a very great pleasure for me.

Your Corydalis 'Shirin'  is an interesting colour. Very nice wide lip, too.

Very fine plants you show us Hannelotte ! We enjoy it  :D

The Anemone is new to me , the Corydalis as Maggi says is very interesting and the Lagotis looks something for a peatbed .
Or is this wrong ?

Thank you, Kris!
I have seen Lagotis glauca in Kamchatka growing in lava and  sand, always in quite wet conditions. In my garden it is growing in gravel, sand and peat by my little pond together with Epipactis palustris and Gymnadenia conopsea.

Lovely to see you here again Hannelotte. We musn't lose touch after meeting in Tabor. Forgive me that I haven't responded to the Facebook messages. I've decided to avoid Facebook as every day there are a dozen or so more and many are from people I never heard of. It all seems silly to me so I'll stick with straight emails and the Forum but I often think of you and hope all is well with you.

Your Corydalis is a real beauty. There are very few in NZ but it's a genus I'm becoming very interested in and at present have C. malkensis coming through in odd pots where I never planted it! But I don't mind at all, one being light yellow instead of white. I think they are all beautiful.

Very best wishes, Lesley

Thank you, Lesley!

I am also very anxious to stay in touch with you! But now I am back in my summer house and the Internet connection is very bad, so it may take some time before I can answer messages. I'll send you a long message as soon as I am back in Stockholm. That will be in the end of August.

We talked about Forsythia viridissima 'Bronxensis' while in Tabor or Prague and I'm still pretty sure the one forsythia I have here is that form.  (Remember how wonderful all the forsythias were in the Czech countryside and city gardens? :)) So later when it's in leaf we can discuss how to get some cuttings to you, at a time to suit you. You see, I have an elephant's memory! ;D It's in full bud now and when in flower I'll take a photograph for your opinion.
