Pleione maculata infection?

I notice some orange-brown spots on some pseudobulbs of P. maculata.
Could it be a fungal infection? Or Brevipalpus?

This is pretty common. It doesn't look like Brevipalpus, but more a superficial fungal infection which I think is caused by wet conditions. In my experience, this won't progress, so although it is unattractive, it isn't a huge problem.

Thanks Alex. I had it before in other species and it has now infected my maculata's... Do you think I need an anti-fungal treatment of will keeping them drier do the trick?

Hi, if you are worried about this, you can cut out the infected tissue with a very sharp knife, dust the wound with cinnamon or flowers of sulphur and let it dry. The bulb will still produce a flower and should multiply in the usual fashion.

The weather's appalling but we are cosy and I can fritter away days at the microscope. My thoughts are with Cumbrian folk at present.
