The RHS has announced its awards for 2015 - I am sure we will join the IGPS in congratulating two Irish recipients of awards :
From the Irish Garden Plant Society -
"Congratulations to Dr. E. Charles Nelson, founder member of the IGPS, who will be awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Veitch Memorial Medal for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of the science and practice of horticulture. Charles is the first Irish person to have received the honour in many years & the first Glasnevin person to receive it since Sir Frederick Moore. Charles was taxonomist for over twenty years at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin.
Our most sincere congratulations and best wishes to Charles
Congratulations also to Seamus O'Brien, Curator at the National Botanic Gardens at Kilmacurragh, who has been elected to the Royal Horticultural Society's Hardy Plant Committee, the first Irish person to be elected.
It involves highlighting what's happening with new woody plants in
Ireland & awarding Award of Garden Merit - AGM - (through Wisley
Trials) to likely candidates.
Seamus has been member of the IGPS for many years and always a great supporter of the society's aims and activities over all these years. We wish him our heartiest congratulations and best wishes. "
