Kingsdown Beach, Kent
« on: June 23, 2015, 08:42:40 PM »
A walk along the shingle beach between Walmer and Kingsdown on the East Kent coast a couple of weeks ago revealed many flowers, some native and some garden escapees. These include Yellow Horned Poppy,  Glaucium flavum, Ox-Eye Daisy, Leucanthemum vulgare, Red valerian, Centranthus ruber, and Red Hot Poker, Kniphofia sp. Also many stunted trees and shrubs - very exposed to the east wind.

But did you find all five colour forms of Centranthus ruber?  That's my hobby.
Almost in Scotland.

So that's what you do out of  snowdrop season!

If you start or finish the walk at Walmer, be sure to visit Walmer Castle. Splendid garden, and historic interest as the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinq Ports. And afterwards call at The Berry in Canada Road, possibly the best pub in East Kent.
