Ops .... bought from RHS Harlow Carr as Saxifraga paradoxa quite a while ago!!!! You can still see the RHS label in the pot. How is that possible?

Saxifraga nivalis, grown from seed from the exchange. Elongated stem due to greenhouse culture. It will be planted in the "scree" after the summer weather.

Not one that is seen a lot Ian. I looked it up in Malcolm McGregor's book and it seems it is Micranthes nivalis now. The flower stem is shown as 5-20cm.

Earlier this year I bought a small collection (six plants, 3 pink and 3 white) of Saxifraga fortunei cultivars from Edrom to add to my existing two white flowered plants. Here's the first two to flower and both are pink.

A bit late, but here you can see the natural companion plants for Saxifraga nivalis. (Sorry - it is a very bad picture ). The rosettes are often solitary. Do you recognize the other ones?

Thanks Luc, hope you are feeling a lot better now. Yes, I've had 'Conwy Snow for a couple of years but it didn't do well where I had it and I moved it to a shady North facing bed where it has been joined by the later additions. First class plants from Edrom and they have  long flowering period. Very good value for money(all a Yorkshireman can ask, apart from not spending money at all of course   )

Trond, I,ve only just seen your picture of S. nivalis. Could the "companion" plants be either moss campion or yellow sax (aizoides)? I can,t ID the others from the photo.

I think this is 'Maria Luisa'. I think Joe Elliott advertised this as flowering at Christmas. Well I guess Christmas came early this year?

 Whiter than white- Mark - very nice with the contrast of the acid centre.

Very pretty Mark. According to Malcolm McGregor's tome it's classed as Saxifraga x salmonica (S. burseriana x S. marginata)
