Staphylea bumalda seeds searched
« on: October 07, 2015, 01:54:45 PM »
Hi all .

I looking in this time for seeds of Staphylea bumalda - the Japan bluddernut
It is a big problem because there are many wrong named S.bumalda underway ( thats mostly St. pinnata + St. colchica )
For all who interested for Bluddernuts I have found a good article with all different species
http://arnoldia.arboretum.harvard.edu/pdf/articles/1980-40-2-the-bladdernuts.pdf

Also I enclose a Picture ( from Wikipedia ) of the true St. bumalda
It is good to see the three leaves !( S.pinnata + S.colchica have 5 leaves )

Many well named nurseries sells wrong named plants ...it is really dissapointing
Here is a Picture from my S.pinnata

I could offer Staphylea pinnata seeds for swap - those seeds are collected from a wild growing Population !!!
Also I can send in few weeks seeds of Styray japonicum "Pink Chimes"
Or payment ...
If anybody has seeds for me please send me a PM

Hans

Can't help with seeds, but Michael Gottschalk of Lunaplant (THE German Magnolia specialist) has a list of rare woody plants (Gehölzliste) under
www.lunaplant.de
or
http://www.lunaplant.de/gehoelzliste-neu.html

This includes Staphylea bumalda as a plant of 80 - 100 cm

Have fun, Hans!

Hello Anne ,

many thanks for your Information .
I have heard from this nursery only good things ...
Now I will try to ask for seeds ...maybe I have luck ?
Sowing is much more fun ...and St.bumalda should be easy ...

Hans,

I have the true thing, but it did not set any seeds this year! I did just see holocarpa in the wild last week in China too with a few pods left on it.

Hi Aaron ,

thank you for your mail .
What a pity that you had no seeds in this year ...I suppose you have only a single plant ?

Do you have Picture from China from S.holocarpa ?

All the best

No, I did not take a picture ???. Sorry. I found I forgot to take pictures of quite a few things like Dipteronia and some Arisaema! I was mostly picking the capsules up off the ground. Seeds were very limited this late in the season.

Hans

My two plants seem to be in good fruit. I'd send you seed when got your mail adress. You might also tell your wanted amount of seed.

Good News from me  ;D

I have now received with the help of some members enough seeds of Staphylea bumalda

With this seeds I will try different methods of sowing ...

If anybody is also interested for some seeds of Staphylea bumalda I could send out some portions
Seeds are free ...make only a small donation on SRGC

Without this wonderful Forum and his helpful members it would not possibly for me to get those seeds  :)
