Papaver burseri identification
« on: December 08, 2015, 07:27:38 PM »
Hi,

Could anybody possibly please advise me if Papaver burseri has petals that are entirely white or if they can have a greenish yellow area at the base?

I have a book about poppies that describes them as "purest white" or something similar but I am not sure if that means completely white.

Many thanks.

Nick

I've only seen plants in cultivation with flowers that are entirely white - and the photos I've seen from the wild seem to be that way too - but that's not definitive  :)

Nick,
Papaver burseri is native to north-easterly Alps. It is completely white.

Franz,
Thank you for the additional information and for confirming that it is completely white.

A photograph of what I thought was P.burseri but which now appears to be a hybrid:

(If the photo is missing I apologise, I have been struggling to attach one but hope I might now have cracked it.)

Thank you so much for posting this picture. Looking at this I think the petals are a different shape too.
