The next meeting of the Meconopsis Group is this Saturday, 27th February 2016 and everyone is welcome. It will be held in the Conference Room at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh and starts at 10am. Admission is £1 which covers tea/coffee and a lucky numbered raffle ticket. Please bring your own lunch.
You are welcome to come along just to be entertained – after a brief AGM, there will be several interesting and informative talks (programme attached). But we would really like more members who are also willing to contribute to the work of the Group, as our objectives are to:
“study the Genus Meconopsis by scientific research and to promote its cultivation and conservation”. A huge amount has already been achieved, particularly in relation to the large perennial hybrids and this will continue. But now we are also concentrating on the species and subspecies, the starting point for which is to establish the current status of each one in cultivation. Many are no longer available to purchase and seed can only be found in specialist seed exchanges such as those of the SRGC and Meconopsis Group. Come along on Saturday and help us bring these ‘back from the brink’.
The Group has a worldwide membership, so every talk at every meeting is written up and archived in the Members’ area of the website. This has created an amazing resource, access to which by membership subscription is only £8/year for UK members and £13 for those overseas (the latter amount includes payment for the excellent seed exchange, for which UK members pay an extra £5).
