SRGC Seed Exchange - Packeting Manager - This person is responsible for getting the bulk seed out to the team of volunteers who packet the seed for the renowned SRGC Seed Exchange and receiving it back to be ready for the Seed exchange itself. The job has been done very efficiently for a number of years by Ian Pryde but it is thought that if necessary in future it might be done either by a single person or a small group. A full job description is available for any interested individual or group, it is very detailed and easy to follow to ensure a smooth operation. You will see that there are various parts to the task which could be handled by different people with the appropriate expertise. November is the key month for availability.
1. Spring/summer - Preliminary tasks such as ordering and making small boxes, glassines etc.
2. October - assembling contents of dozens of boxes for the seed volunteer packeters (established team across UK).
3. Early November - the month when it all happens. Receipt of bulk seed, sorted and numbered, from Seed Reception Manager and new seed list. Some expertise with Excel spreadsheet to take list from the seed reception team and add info about seed demand which is used by each volunteer packeter in making up glassines.
4. November - 7 days full time - selecting good seed from the bulk donations to be sent out to the volunteers, putting predetermined number of types and glassines etc into numbered box etc.
5. Receiving these back from volunteers, check all contents. Late seed, more checking etc.
6. December/January - Boxes passed on to seed distribution team. Optional - Compile Easy Ten Selection with leaflet.
Ian Pryde would like to note the satisfaction and pleasure gained from contact with so many packeting volunteers, donors and the vast array and variety of seeds and providing a significant service to the Club and its members.
This is a vital part of the SRGC Seed Exchange operation - your Club needs you!
