Scoliopus bigelovii
« on: September 11, 2016, 07:58:50 PM »
I had 3 flowering pots of the 2 Scoliopus species last year. This year only 1 pot grew and flowered, S. hallii.
Just knocked out a 9" pot labelled Scoliopus bigelovii and found a good handful of roots, but with no obvious growing points, all of which I assume rotted or dried up. Can I encourage new growing points or is this a lost cause?

If the roots are healthy there is every hope they will re-grow. They'd likely so better in the garden than in pots, though.

An Aberdeen garden Maggie? I see what you are saying but I will have to create a raised woodland bed, maybe in a open top cold frame that I can close in winter. My heavy chalky soil will take too much modification as it is I think.

Yes, it is a woodland plant - so pot culture needs to take that into consideration.
