« on: April 15, 2017, 08:50:46 PM »
Christine Boulby, known here for being the SRGC Subscription Secretary, attended the Cleveland AGS  show today and won a lovely trophy, which she is pleased not to have to  polish, for this  smart Primula 'Kusum Krishna'

Primula 'Kusum Krishna' - raised by Graeme Butler of Rumbling Bridge.

AGS North Riding Trophy.

I thought I would start a new topic for the Cleveland show rather than add on more pictures to the Irish Shows topic as it makes searching the Forum more easy.
With Easter being a on such different dates each year the Cleveland show moves each year as it is always on on Easter Saturday and as a result the exhibits vary considerably from year to year so you never know what to expect, but as usual, the exhibitors did not let the show down with some lovely plants on display, the Large Open was very well supported but however, for whatever reason there were no Novice Section entries.
Don Peace carried all before him winning not only the Farrer Medal but also The Small Six Medal, The Ivor Barton Trophy for 6 pans monocotyledon and The Woodward Challenge Cup for the most points in the Open Section....not a bad days work.
Androsace vandellii (3) Farrer Medal
Pleione Ueti Wackernagel (51) part of his Small Six
Fritillaria tuntasia (88), part of his six pan bulbs
Fritillaria alfredae glaucoviridis won the large 1 pan Fritillaria for Don as well

It is nearing the end of the Primula season, at least down here but there were still fine plants on the go
Primula petelotii was the Best Asiatic Primula for Clare Oates (5)
Primula elatior was a massive pan from Mike Dale (6)
Primula reidii williamsii also from Clare Oates (58), small but pristine and a lovely smell
Primula Netta Dennis from Joan Bradbury (105), she seemed to spend all day behind the computer recording late entries then results
Phlox bifida alba was a massive pan in Class 1, it was the Best American Plant at the show for Chris lilley

I took a few plants to the show. These included
Draba 'John Saxton'
Trillium erectum 'Dwarf Form' (18) bought many years ago from Bob and Rannveig Wallis, they also supplied me with
Narcissus 'Solveig's Song' (70), so named after her sister
Erigeron montanensis (26) and I also took
Aquilegia grahamii in (89) just for interest really

Classes for Rare in Cultivation always attract me and there were two plants that were interesting
Gaultheria trycophylla from Brian Burrow (87)...you needed to be close to see the flowers
Androsace globifera from Alan Furness (87)
Iberis taurica from Jim Watson (63) was a much admired plant, now have a few cuttings from him, hope they take
Hepatica 'Millstream Merlin' from Dave Riley (65), was having a week with no AGS duties at a show but was commandeered into judging
Saxifraga pubescens 'Snowcap' from Georgina Instone (66)

Last picture is of the Best Plant in the Intermediate Section for Michael Myers
Pleione Whaicari...at least I think it was, label not very clear but still a nice specimen
Well that is my last one, as I already said was a nice show, plenty exercise for the exhibitors given the long march between the car park and the show hall, made full use of my trolley to ferry plants in and out, bought it after last years show, well worth the small investment. For a change this year there was not much in the way of wind and the sun shone from time to time which made for a pleasant day, quite different today as seems to have rained all day here...is much needed though as had no rain for ages.

Good thinking, George - I added  the post about Christine Boulby from the other thread of various AGS shows
