Question re securing glass panes

Not sure if this is the right place to post.

I think it used to be common place to put a pane of glass over those alpines that don't like the winter wet - but does anyone know how they were held in place? I keep thinking it was some kind of wire thingy.

If anyone knows what they are called and where i could get some I'm thinking of trying this but using plastic frame lights that I'll have over a couple of sinks.

Mark, I'm pretty certain Ian Young has shown what he uses (pieces of bent wire shaped to clip a pane of glass) on the Bulb Log but I couldn't find any reference to it in the Bulb Log Index

 I think the reference in the Bulb Log Index is to "rain hats" which is what Ian calls them!

 We use polycarbonate but one can use glass.  Makes a very secure, safe plant cover - make to size, height etc required.
