Hi Maggie, these are in pots and I put under cover if lots of rain is forecast. They have done very well this year. I did put a bit more effort into feeding them when I fertilised the clivia at the same time.

Hippeastrum aulicum are blooming in the greenhouse.  These were grown from seed from Mauro Peixoto in Brazil.  They all seem to be trying to bloom at once.  The individual bulbs are producing flowers that vary in form from plant to plant.






The bulbs that bloomed first are starting to produce seed pods, so there must be some bugs flying around in the greenhouse that I  haven't seen.

How many years from seed to flower?

I'm not keeping such detailed records anymore.  I will have to poke around in those pots for plastic labels that have notes such as first bloom date.  I'll guess the time to first bloom from seed runs 5 to 10 years, depending on species and origins.
