Meconopsis in Sikkim, 2017
« on: November 03, 2017, 09:58:28 PM »
On my trek in Sikkim this summer, I saw two meconopsis.  The first was M. paniculata.  Two forms were seen; all but one  plant had yellow flowers.  The lone outlier had pink flowers.  Most were seen northeast of Lachung.

The second meconopsis was M. simplicifolia.  It grew mixed in with rhododendrons northeast of Lachung and in grassy, subalpine areas northwest of Lachen.  The color variation was very attractive.

I just realized I forgot to include Meconopsis horridula pictures.  The color of the flowers was extraordinary.  Pictures are a little blurry -- the wind was blowing things around.

Thank you for these pictures, it is so nice to see who they look in their natural habitat.
Did you see M.integrifolia? I hope to see flowers next summer in my seed grown plants and wonder how they look in the nature.

Sorry, Leena, we did not see M. integrifolia.  I was impressed by the huge number of plants of M. paniculata and M. simplicifolia.  Eye candy!
