Ceratotheca triloba + Viola manshurica 'Fuji Dawn'
« on: July 06, 2018, 01:59:29 PM »
Good results from sowing  ;D

In last year I have received seeds of both from a nice Forum member  ( Thank you Véronique)
Now a lot of the Ceratotheca are flowering ( I have raised 10 plants )

Also looks well the seedlings of  Viola manshurica 'Fuji Dawn' ...they need a little more time ( 9 plants )

It is really a great fun to swap with other members

Hans,
Really lovely ceratotheca - I have not seen this before. Did you sow the seeds this spring? I ask because I guess it might not like our Scottish winters, but if it can be grown as an annual, that would be OK.
I hope you will have enough seeds to send some to the seed exchange.

Carolyn ,

Yes ...I have it sown in March ( inside the house )
I think it is only possibly to grow as annual
My idea was a tray with  tow parts sowing soil + 1 part pumice ...they start well but many are died ( I dont know why )
After some weeks I have tranfer single seedlings in Jiffy pots ...that was better
Some days later I made the Jiffy pots in bigger plastic pots ...
From this time the temperature was well enough to let the pots outside by night ...later in big pots ( 1 Liter ) and now they are happy ...
Maybe I would try next time Jiffy pots from the begin ...

and that's good because I did not succeed at this plant this year. too much drought, which I am not used to and I can not water so many seedling pots. I accumulate the losses.

Ceratotheca triloba is a fast-growing annual when it gets regular watering.

in the family Pedaliaceae, there is also the genus Sesamum which sometimes shows beautiful flowers of the same style.

great success for the Viola, Hans.

 - an excellent reason for sharing seeds/plants. Now I expect you will get it back!

Super flowers, Veronique. The young plant leaves look almost like tomato leaves!
Thanks for posting.

Hans, you've done the ceratotheca and I've done Dolichos lablab purpureus (your seeds)
what a pretty bean! I really like; I only hope that the seeds will have time to mature before the winter. it's late.
