A rather sparse Camellia 'Cornish Snow'. Needs pruning methinks.

I think you can prune them pretty hard. People grow them as hedges.

Well yes, we do see hedges of fully evergreen camellias up here. Sorry, I "saw" your 'Cornish Snow' as being deciduous and got confused. $:-\$

Hello there
I tend to cut back around 1/4 to a 1/3 first an then give them a feed. I then leave for a while to see where they are going to break from and re prune to shape. I find they will break from low down but it can take a few years to regenerate if they are pruned very hard. If I have camellias in pots I find they can get pot bound and starved quite quickly. I tend to feed with a general balanced liquid feed with good results for growth in late spring and switch to a higher potash feed in summer to harden up the young growth and encourage flowers. I quite often add some chealated iron if they are looking a bit yellow.
