It is Androsace time. It always amazes me how quick these tough plants wake up from
their winter rest. Some of them are from wild seed collected in China and flower for the
first time for me.

Super plants, Rudi...... all with charm.

We are seeing the Andros on the show benches here...... a selection from Perth Show on the 18th April.....
 Androsace cylindrica x helvetica
 Androsace muscoidea
 Androsace vandellii

Maggi, were these Androsace grown by Members of the SRGC?  They are gorgeous hummocks - how on earth did all the tiny flowers on the vandellii appear so showy on the day  ???

Maggi!  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o  That last one is almost unbelievable.  I do so wish I could get over there to some of your shows, although I am not sure I would believe everything I was seeing.  I grow a single Androsace, because my climate isn't exactly friendly to them, but the thought of them growing like that is just amazing.  How big across was that last one?

I expect that the fat Androsace vandellii was in a 12ich ( 30 cm )pot and across the dome would  measure about 45 cms? Goodness knows how many flowers! It's from the stable of the Secret Squirrel: that man Lafong is one goodf grower!!

The flowers on Androsace last in good condition for longer than you might imagine,they are not a one day wonder, and it is easy to see when they are going past..... if your specs are strong enough!

Rudi,

Beautiful plants. I wish (a) that I could acquire such a magnificent collection and (b) grow them. I had a specimen of Androsace vandellii that flowered for me last spring but with only a dozen flowers it does not compare with the specimen from the Perth Show. It is now no more. A possum knocked the pot of the bench and I could not find the plant in the debris. It may have been eaten.
