Looks rather annual and is full of dark coloured seeds.

The plant was a single stem growing in a pot of bulbs - about 12" tall.
Datura seems a little unlikely Gail.

It seems you may be right Gail.
Further research reveals Datura stramonium as the most likely culprit.
It will be interesting to see how the seeds perform.

It can be quite invasive on bare soil ... but apparently the seedlings have trouble to cope with competition from other plants for (I presume) light.  I had dozens of these growing on bare soil and they did make loads of seeds, but the next year, when grass had covered the area none were growing.
