Ah- the hotel boasts two 100-year-old red and white plum trees near its entrance. Anybody know how to pronounce it properly?

They mentioned  this point already. It means white plum.(白梅)
In addition, plum blossoms are considered culturally lucky charm in Japan because they bloom beautifully during the cold season,
 and I guess that the flower name are more symbolic mean than similarity.
