Time  for  an Avon Spring  Sale it  seems!

"March has gone !

All the mail order work for the spring is now up to date and the last bulbs are offered in our Sale which starts immediately. But with lots of plants starting to 'wake up' the show season is gaining some pace and we are particularly preparing for the Malvern Flower Show - now our biggest event of the year.

For One Week Only - Bulb Sale

We are left with a limited list of bulbs after a busy spring packing season but those that are left are now available in the Sale.

In the online Check Out process enter the Discount Code: EOS19 in order to obtain a 35% discount."

Open days at Avon Bulbs: Friday 26th and Saturday 27th April 10.00 - 4.00

The Nursery will be open and we shall have any remaining summer flowering bulbs available for sale as well as a selection of plants obviously !   The plants are ones that would otherwise be destined for the Malvern Flower Show so if you can't get there you can come and see us beforehand !  Ahead of the show we can't discount them much but we will account for the fact that we are not transporting them up the M5 !

There will be self service refreshments (with donations going to the Mozambique Cyclone fund)  guided nursery tours, at 11.30 and 3.00 each day and for those that can wander the 250 m down the road, the unique 17th Century Middle Lambrook URC church will be open for an hour at 2.00 each day to explore.

East Lambrook Manor Gardens are open on both days (both garden and nursery). On the Saturday their opening is under the NGS banner between 10.00 and 5.00 with the entry fee supporting nursing and palliative care charities.

Events that Avon are attending in April and May:

Sunday 14th  April:  Mapperton House nr Beaminster, Dorset DT8 3NR     10.00 - 4.00

Friday 3rd May and Saturday 4th May:  Powderham Castle  near Exeter

Thursday 9th - Sunday 12th May:   Malvern Flower Show

From Avon:
"We have CLOSED the website to Plant and Bulb orders by post. Any remaining plants are becoming too tall to fit into boxes! The next time that we shall be sending out plant material will be in August (dormant snowdrops) and August/September for the Late summer and Autumn flowering bulbs. We can still take orders for Seeds, Gloves, Diaries etc.  Thank you to all the customers who have supported us by buying the plants that should have gone to the shows this spring and summer.
Thank you for your interest."

More  news  on the  difficulties  that will face  nurseries' ability  to send  goods outside the  UK - this  message  to EU customers  from Avon Bulbs:

Dear Customer
This comes with our best wishes for Christmas where-ever you live.
We would like to advise you that we are now closed for Christmas and will return to work in the New Year on 4thJanuary 2021.
We are (still) very uncertain as to what we can do to provide you with our bulbs and plants. I am afraid that some of it has still to be worked out.
We only received a notification today from DPD (I think Geopost in Europe) that they would not be able to handle any parcels that required Customs intervention or additional declarations.
In that all plant material sent from the UK to the EU will require a Phytosanitary Certificate at least, we do not know if they will handle our parcels.
Until this is more clear we shall continue to accept orders from EU customers, but do be aware that there will be a charge for the Phytosanitary Certificate (we expect about £15 per order) and this would be limited to plants that we can safely clean of any soil.
Snowdrops “in the green” look especially difficult as they cannot be cleaned in growth without great time and cost, and then there is the additional cost of a CITES certificate as well (£76 per order)!
We hope to be able to work out a solution so that we can legally send snowdrops when they are dormant. So your orders for snowdrops may have to be held over till the summer.
We will contact you individually about any orders you may wish to try and make.
For your custom in the past we are however very grateful.
Best wishes,
Chris and Alan and the team at Avon Bulbs
