Primula ident please
« on: September 12, 2008, 07:45:09 PM »
I had put this on the Primula pages, but will now put it here in the hope of it receiving a wider audience.
Obtained as P. recubariensis from The Netherlands, but I'm not sure if it is or not.
It is flowering now, is less than 1 inch high, is not the 'lilac' it's meant to be, nor does it smell resinous.
I've looked at all available websites and books but haven't a clue as to its true identity.
Thanks for your help,
Giles

Thankyou for your suggestion, David.
I'm not over familiar with P.allionii (I've only got a couple), all I can say is that it doesn't look like any of the ones I've already got.

Giles, I was just looking at the general shape of the leaves and the single, out of season, flower. Also, the bits of grit on the leaves indicate that they might be sticky?

I sent my query to John Richards and it came down to counting the number of cells making up the hairs on the leaf.
It's a P.recubariensis.
If you want one, I got it from De Reuvenkamp nursery.
