It's been a long and busy weekend, Cliff, what can I say.... it is worth it, though, if I have pleasured you..... though I do feel I might have worded that a little better

There was  a spot of confusion at the AGM, when the show records had suffered a hiccup and it turned out that the Rutland Salver - the award for the person winning most points at the shows in Section II during the year - was announced as being won by the wrong person ....... so while we have no photo of Geoff Hill being presented with tha award, we do have a photo of Geoff Hill collecting, (on behalf of the lady winner, who could not be present) the cup for the best embrioidery work exhibited this year!

Confused? We all are! But many congratulations to Geoff Hill on his Rutland Salver success!!

What a terrific get together it was on Saturday.  We started with a very civilised picnic with alcohol provided by the SRGC. Lots of chat and laughs with friends. Then on with the business of the day and the awards. 

Unfortunately fellow forumists our international drive to get the Golden Jubilee Salver awarded to Maggi was not possible this year.  Still it did go to Ian Young so we are getting close.  Apparently for some reason it is not posssible to award it to a couple.  Anyway the feedback I got from all and sundry was try again next year, so I will be in touch next summer.

You will have noticed from the pictures posted of Brian and I that I had my 'black pudding' hidden under my jumper.  It really isn't fair when they don't give you time to breathe in before snapping.

Shelagh - and all you kind Folks who supported her campaign in pursuit of the Golden Jubilee Salver  honour for me- I cannot tell you how shocked and emotional I was when I learned of your efforts.
I was astonished at your appreciation and kindness and I send to all of you who joined in, my fondest and most sincere thanks.

I thoroughly enjoy my "job" as the "internet contact" for the SRGC and my efforts here in this forum are an extension of that which I consider just as important for the club and great fun.
I must say that Ian's contribution, given in so very many ways, to the Club is hugely deserving of the GJS honour and he is very proud to have this recognition from his beloved SRGC.
 I think you can probably tell by my smiles that I am quite delighted by the fact that so many of you saw fit to nominate me.... and the chocolates are a fine consolation!!

Ref the picture of Geoff Hill:- given all the photo skills that Ian has I am surprised that he did not remove the embroidery trophy from the picture and replace it with the Rutland Salver .

Some difficulties there, David..... one, it is I who was preparing the photos ..... two, I do not have such skills and three, I have no photo of the Rutland Salver!!

Hi to all, firstly and most important is to thank Maggie for all the super pictures taken at the AGM. next is to say we have had a special celebratory year thanks to all the efforts made by the members out in the big wide world and you the forumists who post here are also a very important part of our big family. Maggie we value very much the contact ,your very own brand of humour that you have with the forumists. The chocolates were a very special thank you from me on behaf of all forumists, cheers Ian the Christie kind.

To offset the business side of the AGM, the  day is always enlivened by a talk, The Clark Memorial Lecture, endowed by her sister and  named for the late Miss Jenny Clark, who ran a nursery in Kippen and was an Honorary Vice President of the SRGC. (There is an article about Miss Clark written by Ron Bezzant, in the Rock Garden no. 104, pages 249-252)
This year's Speaker was none other than Jens Nielsen; plantsman, grower, propagator, explorer, rugby player and "naturalised" Danish Scot !!


Jens' subject was " A piece of China".... and he contrived, while facing tempting tables laden with pieces of china, all piled with delicious cakes, to give his appreciative audience a whistlestop tour of some of the "pieces" of China where he has travelled. It says a good deal that the plants Jens showed were as mouthwatering as the feast that awaited him ...and us, after his talk.

Just catching up with a very large Inbox after a week away but still had the time to notice this. Is an assembled thong the same as a Marks and Sparks thong??

Good grief! I've done it again...... that would be a THRONG!! A thong, as Alan Newton would tell me, is quite other......      Hope Cliff Booker doesn't spot this, I had enough bother with him the other day
