What´s wrong with my narcissus ?
« on: April 09, 2009, 07:45:59 PM »
The last week several of my narcissus in pots have showed yellowish, almost orange, leaves. could it be some kind of fungus ?
It´s the top half of the leaves that are affected . It doesn´t seem to affect the pseudonarcissus types though. The weather has been rather sunny lately but with cold nights.

Lars - this seems to be common in pot grown Narcissus. Many of mine show it & it is mentioned by John Blanchard in his book on Narcissus. The leaves may eventually turn entirely yellow when they can be pulled off. The cause seems to be unknown. It seems to occur late in the season & I don't know whether it weakens the plants significantly.

His was a long life - lived well.

OK, thank´s Gerry. I´ll just have to wait and see if they are weaker next growing season then. Actually, I was going to plant some of them out in the garden and now I have another  good reason to do it then.  :)

Hi:

Someone volunteering to cut an affected bulb in half trasnversally? Sounds like nematode attack, in which case there is a general red alert.
