« on: May 21, 2009, 01:30:24 AM »
Looking for fresh seed of Adonis vernalis, amurensis and the rare cyllenea.

Whats the germination rate on these and how hard are they to cultivate?

cheers

I have had 2 batches of A. cyllenea, fresh from Forum members. First batch 1 germinated, died as soon as I potted it on. Second batch, 5 germinated and on the donor's advice, left them, for a second year in the seed pot. Potted on OK but died during the following winter, not cold but perhaps too wet.

A. vernalis won't germinate for me, even fresh and A amurensis has never set seed on my plants. I think all plants in NZ are divisions from a single clone, along with a double form which is sterile anyway.

Stephen, I can send you some wild collected Adonis vernalis, if you want to try it. I have no experiences with it, I know only that the plant is absolutely hardy here, in zone 6 (and also 5). But it grows in extremely dry dolomitic stony grasslands  here.
Send me a PM if you are interested.
