Plea for help in primula search....
« on: February 26, 2009, 05:09:13 PM »
Friends, I have received this message from a grower keen to track down some of the varieties of primula bred by the late Gerry Mundey.... can anyone help?
 If so, please contact me......

Plea reads: "Hi  - I know this is a challenge but  I wonder if anyone in the club can help me? I'm a keen grower of asiatic primulas here in Derbyshire and I'm looking to to find some of Jerry Mundy's Tinneys plants, I have a good stock of Tinney's Moonlight but I've lost my plants of Tinney's Jewel and Tinney's Appleblossom....so I'd love to know if anyone has any of these to spare - to buy or swap - and if anyone has any other Tinneys hybrids...or other interesting primulas? I've emailed several nurseries and consulted the RHS Plantfinder, all to no avail.
thanks for your help and hoping for some success!"

It may be worth trying David Sampson, formerly of Oakdene Nursery, Broad Oak, East Sussex. He shut the nursery last year I think, but I suspect he would be happy to supply the odd plant still. He inherited Gerry Mundey's collection (almost entire, I think) when he died and used to have a number of his Primula hybrids. he hasn't moved house, so contact details are probably still as per nursery (see Google). If not, I may be able to chase up a more recent number/email.
