Seen, in a field near here: a pair of Fire Lilies (
Cyrtanthus contractus
). This is a common plant in our area, seen at its best in the spring after the veld has been burnt.

"Does it flower only after fire?"
Sporadically, fire seems to promote synchronous flowering. However, they seem to be quite happy flowering in pots at a fairly young age, but they are a little fussy and prone to rotting if the medium is not sufficiently drained.
