Hosta and Hemerocallis species
« on: October 16, 2009, 06:38:34 PM »
Is there anyone who is able to send me even a few seeds of wild collected or ex wild collected Hosta or Hemerocallis species?

Any Asian/Russian members who might be able to help?

The only species I have of true wild origin is:

Hemerocallis citrina vespertina (Japan)
H. exaltata (Japan)

Hosta rectifolia (Russia)
so many species....so little time

Can do....BUT....it has been my experience with specialists/owners of nurseries of both Hosta/Hemerocallis that hybrids rule and the relatively few species, if they exist at all are rarely true/of wild origin and/or growing in the same environment with huge quantities of hybrids that even if they are true, the seed can no longer be trusted. Hostas in particular are the most wildly promiscuous genus there is.

Kristl,  I got Hosta kikutii var. yakusimensis when I visited the Planthunters Garden at Pitlochry three years ago, so there may be someone here who has that one.  Mine grows, but very, very slowly, and so far has not yet flowered.   If it does, and sets seed, I'll save you some, one year, when you are least expecting it, it will arrive lol.
