Dactylorhiza fuchsii ssp. o'kellyi
« on: September 15, 2007, 11:11:38 PM »
Hello,

does anyone here know where to get this scented beauty?
I would love to cultivate it in my garden - together with other Dactylorhizas from the D. maculata-family.

Thanks in advance!

Dactylorhiza fuchsii ssp. o'kellyi grows on the Burren about 30klms from where I live in the west of Ireland, but it is a protected species and we are not now allowed to collect it.

I dont want to dig it out from where it grows in nature!
I'm just looking for someone who already cultivates it legally.
I would like to buy or trade.

Hello Mark,
I just saw your reply today!
That's great! Since I was luckier with seeds than with tubers, I would like to ask you if it would be possible to get seeds from your O'Kellyi-Dacties? If you need advice about how to fertilize the flowers, I can help you with a short brochure containing instructions about how to do this.
Kind regards
Erwin

Oh Mark,

if you could spare some seed of Dact fuchsii v. O'Kellyi, I would be over the moon. I was promised some seedpods when I last visited Ireland and went on the annual field trip of the Irish Orchid Society to the Burren. But they never materialised, an oversight, I am sure.

If you can spare some seed, I have a good man who knows how to germinate/flask them. If you are concerned about my being "trade", I have no intention of selling them on, but would love to have some for my private collection.
