x Urceocharis clibranii

Has anybody heard of this plant or x Urceocharis edentata.It was bred by a Mr Clibran of Altringham about 1896.These plants were bred by crossing Eucharis grandiflora with Urceolina urceolata.Not likely to be in AU but just wondering if its still around.bye Ray

Hi Ray ,

Never heard before .....
I have just a bit searched : the correct name is Urceocharis clibranii
it exist also a a second of this hybrids : Urceocharis edentata - maybe a natural hybrid

Not a cross I would have thought likely to have taken.  What were the flowers like?

Hi Paul,read this in a friend's gardening book and there were no pics of the flowers and can't remember if there was a written description.Hans found them on the net so maybe there is a description there.bye Ray

I have not found a pic of U.clibranii ....but if you look on the IBS website there is a drawning of U.edentata -they looks nice !

Urceocharis Clibrani is the name given by Dr. Masters to a
hybrid between Urceolina pendula and Eucharis grandiflora,
and originated by Messrs. Clibran, of Oldfield Nurseries, Al-
trincham, England. Judging from a figure in the Gardeners'
Chronicle the flowers are curiously intermediate in form be-
tween the two parents, and they are very beautiful and inter-
esting. The flowers are borne on ascending stalks as in
Eucharis, not pendulous as in Urceolina. They are pure
white, borne in umbels, each one two and a half inches long
with a slender tube expanding into a cup-shaped limb. The
new hybrid promises to be of great decorative value.
