Interesting and the crocus from the lawn of the parent Grimshaws is very pretty.... but it has a very definite yellow throat, which E.A. Bowles painting does not seem to have..... ??? :-\

On my visit to the Cruickshank Botanic Garden last Tuesday I had a look at the patch of Crocus chrysanthus E.A. Bowles.  When I first looked after the rock garden there were more gardeners and I had time to rogue out the seedlings which appeared.  I'm not sure which would be the original now.  The seedlings came in paler and deeper yellow and also white.
The following pics were taken in bright sun so the different yellows are not very clear.

My E.A. Bowles received from John, don't think that it is true to name.
