Putative hybrid?
« on: September 09, 2010, 02:33:38 PM »
There's always a surprise awaiting the unwary gardener! This attractive flower (right in the first photo) appeared as a self-sown seedling in my daisy patch recently. I was extremely surprised to see this flower on what I assumed to be just another orange Barberton Daisy, Gerbera jamesonii. I do grow a patch of Gerbera viridifolia nearby (left in the first photo) so, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised to come across what might be an occasional hybrid. The second photo shows details of the capitulum and how different the two flowers really are.
