Pleione formosana

After many years without a Pleione I got my original plant back about 2 years ago. There was no flower last year.  When winter started I took them out of their pot and into the fridge.  At the beginning of September I took them out of the fridge and planted them.  This is what they looked like this afternoon:

You did well, the plants look nice and clean, I hope you'll show us when they flower. Your paphiopedilums aren't bad either!!

It is just a pity that it is difficult to get some of these plants in South Africa. I spoke to a number of people who said they had Pleiones many years ago, but lost all of them.  It seems to me that the trick is to keep them dry and cold in winter.  It worked for me this time.  I hope I can keep mine going for many years.

Pleione need seasonal triggers and your quite right, they need a cold spell over winter.

Nice to see one in flower now as I've just been out the greenhouse sorting out some dormant bulbs.

Really nice flower. So pretty, I just love the large flowers of Pleiones from such a small plant.

I have a hybrid which has formosana as a grandparent and I'm trying to give it a seasonal change by leaving it out in the greenhouse... hope it works, if not I might have to try your fridge idea!
