European or UK nursery shipping to USA?
« on: January 07, 2011, 01:09:56 PM »
Hello Folks, I've received this query from a member in New Mexico, can you suggest a nursey which may be able to help her?

"Do you know of anyone that can ship to USA? I have been trying
to obtain Ione Hecker oxalis for almost 4 years (sigh). Any ideas who
can help me?"

 Thanks!

Oxalis 'Ione Hecker' is available in the United States. No need to import it. Start by looking at the specialist rock garden nurseries like Arrowhead Alpines in MI, Laporte Avenue Nursery or Sunscapes Rare Plant Nursery in CO, Siskiyou Rare Plant Nursery in OR, Mt. Tahoma Nursery in WA, Evermay Nursery in ME. I believe Beaver Creek Nursery and Harvey Wrightman, both in Canada, have arrangements in place to ship to the US with a minimum of fuss.

I don't have catalogues handy or I'd try to zero you in a bit. BUT there's no need to go to Europe for this plant!

Thanks, Carlo, that will be good news to the New Mexico lady.

On a related point....I must say that when I have looked at some US nursery sites in the past I have been surprised to see that they only ship to their home state or one or two others.... that was a shock to me that there wouldn't be USA wide supply.... not sure whether that is governed by interstate legislation or distance/carriage costs or what..... :-\ :-X

Interesting. I have never encountered such a limitation and I've ordered things from all over the country. IF they ship in the first place, my experience is that they are happy to send things anywhere. I am aware, however, that a few states (CA and HI come to mind) may have restrictions on plants coming IN. I've never lived in one of these states and so cannot speak to that situation. I do know that CA and HI have no issues shipping things out.
