Galanthus Jessica. Accurate?
« on: February 06, 2011, 04:17:07 PM »
Not sure if this is the right area of the Board, except this is a Galanthus problem of  sorts.
The lighting at Loughborough's Burleigh College is weird to say the least. So the question is is this an accurate image of Galanthus Jessica?
The orange coloured one is the RAW image. I said the lighting was odd!

It does seem to lack the strong green markings on the outer petals.

The Jessicas I have seen have a long narrow ovary. It should have a normal mark at the sinus notch and a paler 'reflection'

Now that is interesting. I think the alterations I made to the White Balance are correct, but possibly the plant was misnamed on the display. Thank-you very much.

Here mine from yesterday - green marks are not so intense as shown in Jo's pic.

But the shapes matches Jo's, in petals and ovary.

Looking again at the original picture, the green markings on the outer petals are there, so it is the post processing I have done which has possibly removed them. I will have to have another go. Thanks once again.

The monograph points out that the ovary is 'narrowly ovoid' the proportions being 11:5 so that would seem to indicate that the showbench photo might not be correct.  Perhaps a seedling from the main bulb?
