University of Leicester Botanical Garden
« on: February 24, 2011, 06:24:44 PM »
Hope you don't mind a plug for this (my daughter went to Leicester uni). If I get a chance I'm going to go as it's been a couple of years and it's well worth it.

NEW DATES FOR CROCUS SUNDAYS. Owing to the advanced season our Crocus Sundays will be brought forward by one week. The new dates are: 27th February and 6th March 2011. A stunning display of Crocus tomasinianus will be at its best (weather permitting), also a woodland walk with early flowering species and the Alpine House with a magnificent array of bulbs.

11am - 4pm, entrance by donation to Hope Against Cancer. Refreshments will be available. Note also that there will be a SALE OF SPRING PLANTS on the 6th March date.

There website is http://www2.le.ac.uk/projects/botanic-gardens

No Problems Maggi,

the grounds are beautiful It's spread over a couple of sites, main garden and the Attenborough Arboretum - named for Dicky darling not David (both good Leicester lads)but they do have an alpine house  ;D and a rockery or two (look on the Garden Preview) and not far from Nottingham if your ever there  ;D

I put a couple of pictures in the peony thread last year after a visit with the Peony Group of the Hardy Plant Society; http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4975.45
We were very impressed by the garden - I was trying to encourage my son to apply to the uni as there is some student accommodation actually in the gardens.....

We will be in Nottingham in April for the Alpines 2011 conference.... but we'll just be rushing there by train and rushing home again. :(
