Sowing now? How?

Yestarday I've collected some seeds os my Thulbagia violacea and Leucojum Autumnale.

My question is: shall I sow them just now or wait? And if I shall wait, when is the time to sow them?

Don't know about the thulbagia, but the Acis (new name) autumnalis comes easily from seed I find.  I just put bits into my troughs and let them sort themselves out.  I've never bothered to put in the fridge as they seem to germinate pretty easily.  Try a few each way?

Hi ChrisB, tanks for your answer. The Acis(?) I think it must be easier to germinate as they grow wild in Portugal. I'll seed them now, to see the development.

Great stuff, Cris.  I have just gathered molehill soil today in my new trug.  I plan to mix it to make my compost when my SRGC seed arrives next month.  Can't wait to see things start to pop up!

Hi:
    L. autumnale is a winter cycle plant. Sow now and if no germination has taken place by spring keep the pot dry during your summer to restart it again next autumn. My fresh seed never germinated the same year it was harvested.

    The Tulbaghia is an evergreen with warm cycle. Sow when it is warm in spring. Results are incomparably better in hot climates.

My Acis autumnale did germinate same year as gathered, and more is starting to come in the soil around the plants too.  Guess depends on conditions?  I have also germinated tulbaghias from seed, but don't remember details of that one.

Hi Chris:
            It is possible. Conditions here are more like in the Cape Province with slight frosts. A/L. autumnale seeds go dormant in the first season here, perhaps because the winters are not cold enough? They germinate next year without problems.

             Tulbaghia violacea in downtown Buenos Aires, where the climate is subtropical, flowers profusely the year round, is evergreen and never shows any sign of dormancy.

I might as well experiment and spread the seeds in my troughs and rockery and see what happens. Very disappointed in the lack of feedback

Hi Mark:

Sorry. Once the seeds are 12 weeks in stratification, sow in a layer of grit and expose to northern air outdoors. Water well when spring weather is on (to mimic snowmelt).

Germaination will take place in one month or so, uniformly if the seed is fresh, otherwise erratic.
