Ranunculus calandrinoides
« on: May 01, 2011, 01:45:06 PM »
I got a plant of this from the Edinburgh show and have planted it in a direct sun position, well drained.  It's not looking all that happy, but the report I've seen suggests being a bulb it does die back at certain times of the year.  It also suggests that again being a bulb care should be taken not to put it in a damp place or over water

Any guidance ?  Thanks

Rob mine die back also. They are going already because of the heat and drought. They will come up again in the autumn

Yes, it is summer dormant. Mine is growing well now (May, autumn here). It isn't a bulb though, more of a tuberous or thick root, rather thong-like. If dug up while dormant to divide, there will be thick roots with little growth points at the top of the clump. It's North African and likes full sun at all times.
