Two Chinese Clematis
« on: April 16, 2011, 09:27:30 AM »
Any ideas? The first one is from Luding, clearly something in sect. Campanella. The second is from Hailuogou, about 2700m, with two different types of leaves.

The first is probably C. henryi(species) and the second leaves and fruits of C. repens or kweichowensis or yui.
I can send of the these species pictures except C. yui.

Was there nectar in the C. henryi(normal).

Thank you! Sorry I didn't specify the province, both were photographed in W Sichuan. At that altitude and location I guess it has to be C. repens, the other two are further south. Quite surprised actually, I though C. repens was considered somewhat tender?

I didn't notice any nectar on the white one, the pictures are from late September. Are there any other possibilities? The leaves were mostly ternate, and C. h. var. ternata is from Shaanxi. It might be decidous? The area has warm, moist summers and mild, very dry winters.

The form of the flowers is more of dasyandra(China)/lasiandra(Japan) but these are red.
I search more for you tomorrow but also look to this item:

Here you find a lot of information: http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/ and http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=107312

If I see the ternate leaves and the flowers it can be C. urophylla because I remember this plant which I had several years ago.

Other possibilities are(white flower and ternate leaves):
C. subfalcata
C. qingchengshanica
C. jingdungensis
C. yunnanensis
