Plants near Col du Petit Mont Cenis
« on: June 29, 2011, 07:47:49 PM »
We are having trouble identifying a couple of plants found today near the Col du Petit Mont Cenis.  The surrounding rocks were granite. The white flowered plant (Cenis-2) has a nice matted base of long leaves which can be seen in the photo.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi David,
The first plant is a Euphrasia species.  Possibly a pale form of Euphrasia alpina.
I am working on the second plant but will inevitably be beaten to it from all fronts.  ;D

Could the white plant conceivably be Saponaria lutea?

The first one is a euphrasia species ... which one  ???

The second is Saponaria lutea.  There is a photo on Calflora.

Yes, Saponaria lutea, as in my troughs and as it hybridizes with S. pumilio as I've just posted in a different thread. :)

Thanks for your help everyone.

Nicole:  we have been using the florealpes site.  It is very good.

As a small compensation for all your efforts here is a photo of Primula pedemontana in the same area.
