Weather - Autumn 2011
« on: October 18, 2011, 09:05:05 PM »
The first snow of the season fell on high ground yesterday - a couple of shots taken in the Arrochar Alps, firstly looking across Loch Long to Ben Arthur (The Cobbler) and driving east towards Arrochar along Glen Croe

Beautiful pictures Maureen. Still a liitle autumn there before the winter sets in. We have just had what I hope is the LAST snow of the winter - it always seems to happen when lambs are being born in the south - with a number of roads and passes closed for a day or two. We here just out of Dunedin had 120mm of rain which is a great boon as our storage tank was just about empty but is now full and hopefully I won't have to buy water though the summer. All the plants had a really good drink too, especially the troughs which I find hard to keep damp when the compost is piled up high.

Lovely pictures Maureen, and managing to down load the pictures. I struggle putting pictures on the forum, takes me ages. Looks as if it would be a nice place to visit no matter what time of year. I like when you just start seeing the snow on the hills.
Nice to see some more.

Seems to be a nice place ;)

As I wrote elsewhere we had our first snow on high ground a couple of weeks ago. The first picture is from Hardangervidda (The Hardanger Plateau) Saturday Oct. 8th - 1200m.

Sunday 9th we had more snow and the meadow at our cabin got 25cm which didn't melt the week we stayed there at 950m.

Back home - and no snow. However yesterday we had full gale with rain and thunder. Almost all the trees have shed their leaves due to the strong wind and rain.
However, a few plants bloom on. Among them is Clematis stans. Today it is 9C and rain.

Show off Angie!  Trust the weather to turn nice in Aberdeen when I'm not there.

Another blooper on my part - when I started this thread I said it was the first snow of the season.  I now remember there was snow in the Cairngorms 2-3 weeks ago?

Hey Maureen it's cold here. I am just back in and I am freezing. It's the first day I can say I felt the cold.
I was replying to Anthony, forgot to put the quote in ::) I wish it was 22c

Maureen I think we will have snow here soon. Hope you have had a nice time and hope you left your heating on at home.

Neil it was cold here in Aberdeen as well. Went in my polytunnel and with the sun it was a nice 28c  :D pity I couldn't cover my whole garden with a giant polytunnel.

A cold(ish) start here but a very pleasant 15C early afternoon before clouding over.
