Nearly 20 years it took me to get this thing to flower; was it worth the wait? - without a doubt! I had nearly despaired of ever getting Rigidella (syn. Tigridia) orthantha to grow in my warm climate, never mind flower - the solution? - perhaps the hearty application of fertilizer I gave it when it first showed signs of growth this season.   8)

I am also fascinated by details of its reproductive parts - very diagnostic...

Yes I did, seed came from Ken Gillanders in Tasmania; unfortunately he has closed / sold his nursery in the interim.

Hey, Heinie... it flowered in time for your Birthday! Now that WAS clever!
Had to look veryclosely to be sure it is a flower and not some weird kind of bug..... you can't be too sure in this forum.  ::) ;)

The catalogue says : "Originating from one of our collections found growing in abundance in a Mexican forest on the moist mountains of Oaxaca in 2004 at a lofty 2800m."

Depending how it originated from that collection.... you might still have to wait 12 years for a flower...... ;D Still need quite a bit of patience.... :-X  I think I'll just enjoy Heinie's sorry- Rogan's  plant pix  :D

Maggi, it is Rogan's.

It is an altitude Tigridia (there are four species of "Rigidella" in all) and exceptionally difficult to  grow in mid climates. A huge achievement.

And, Mexico is in North America.

Flowering the second year from seed would be more normal - and require much less patience.
